Growing up with an interesting family background, our founder, Engku Husam has been travelling between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia to meet his extended family in Makkah. Most importantly, he will always bring along some Malaysian food products requested by his family members every time he drops by for his visits.
After years of commuting between the two countries, Husam eventually began venturing into the food trading business in the Kingdom, supplying to hypermarkets and supermarkets.
Seeing an opportunity, Husam made the leap and opened his own specialty store selling Made-In-Malaysia products, bringing the delights of his homeland to the Asian communities and Asian food lovers in Saudi Arabia.
‘Kedai Asia‘, which literally means ‘the Asian Shop‘, opened its door on January 17th, 2017. Together with Mohamad Garah, his partner in the food trading business since 2008, Husam decided to open our first outlet near the Malaysian Consulate in Jeddah.
Located in the Al Aziziyah neighbourhood, our flagship franchise has a floor area of 430 sq feet and began with just 87 types of stock keeping unit products. Our humble beginning attracted the attention of the Malaysian expat community in the Kingdom, with the word on its specialty products spreading to other Asian communities and locals, who have now become amongst Kedai Asia’s patrons and strong supporters.

The new outlet has more than 2000 sq feet, offering more varieties of products. But these two co-founders faced their biggest challenge where they have been conned and through manipulation they lost the premise in Al Rawda after a year with the partnership.
When Husam and Garah were at their lowest point when they thought they lost everything, they got up and launched Kedai Asia online and Kedai Asia Apps just in time when the pandemic Covid19 hit us in 2020. The online shop was a big hit and Kedai Asia became the first Malaysian online shop and Apps in the Kingdom servicing nationwide.
Today, Kedai Asia made a full force comeback and proudly standing with 3000 sqft at the prime area in Jeddah at the Madinah Road. Our new outlet has become the favourite store not only for Malaysian expatriates residing in the Kingdom but also for local Saudis and many other nationalities. Kedai Asia is also available in other locations in Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, Khobar and other cities partnering with local hypermarkets and traditional trade. Not only that, we are also proudly the first Malaysian company operating in The Makkah Clock Tower with collaboration with Abraj, in front of Masjidil Haram in the Holy Land Makkah al Mukarromah.
Kedai Asia will never look back and we are expanding into other GCC countries – in the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar.
